Camphill is based on Christian values but it is a social and therapeutic organisation, not a religious one. However, shared social and religious moments can strengthen the individual and the community, and many people enjoy participating with others in experiences of meaning and beauty.
Each person is free to follow their own faith and beliefs and to choose whether or not to attend these occasions. We ask everyone to respect the faith of others.
Community customs include saying grace before meals, reading the New Testament and prayers and verses, singing hymns and celebrating seasonal and Christian festivals.
Sundays are marked as special days and in the morning there is usually a cultural gathering or a form of Service to which all are invited and many contribute. These are non-denominational and are conducted by members of the Community.
In addition, some residents and coworkers are members of The Christian Community, a movement for religious renewal which was founded in 1922. An ordained priest/minister visits regularly to conduct services and the Sacraments and anyone may attend.
People wishing to attend their own church locally will be supported to do so.
