Camphill Clanabogan is currently working to become part of a new Government
Initiative to address the needs of people with learning disabilities in the
21 century. In a move away from registered Care Facilities the wish is to
become part of the Supported Living Programme. This is a scheme to provide
adults with special needs the choice of where they would like to live and
how they are supported to pursue a chosen lifestyle.
The concepts of a "villager community" or "international community" are
accepted as valuable option of choice. With sufficient publicity it is hoped
that people will be able exercise their choice to live and work in Clanabogan.
A person with a disability will have the rights as any citizen to apply for
Housing Benefits to pay for accommodation and through the "Supported Living"
scheme be allocated money to pay for their appropriate support needs.
We feel that the ethos of Clanabogan as an inter-dependent supportive lifestyle
is more appropriately recognized within this new framework.
