A Day in the Life of a Resident
My name is Karen. I have been living in Camphill Community Clanabogan since June 2002.
A typical day in Clanabogan starts with breakfast at 8:00 am. I am joined by the other house members for breakfast, which takes about half an hour. Immediately after breakfast everyone helps with the dish wash.
Then I have half an hour to myself before I start work at 9:30 am.
From 9:30 am until 11:00 am I work with a co-worker preparing the laundry. At 11:00 am I go to the children's playgroup where I have tea break until 11:30 am. Most days I go for a nature walk with the teachers and children. If the weather is not suitable for walking I will play games, read a story or sing songs with the children. Playgroup finishes at 12:15 am and I return for lunch.
Normally between 12 and 15 people are eating lunch together, after which everyone helps with washing dishes, tidying up and sweeping the kitchen and dining room floors.
Then I am free until 4:00 pm to rest, read or do what I want.
From 4:00 pm until 5:30 pm I help a co-worker to prepare supper which we eat at 6:30 pm, this means I am setting the table every day, preparing supper for the school children and washing dishes which the co-workers has used.
After we have eaten and again washed the dishes I am free to do what I want for the rest of the evening.
My hobbies are swimming, reading, walking, running, going out with friends, listening to music, speaking to my family and friends on the phone and going to my classes at the local College.
