In the Economic Life there is a separation of work and money, whereby work is carried out according to the need of the community and the ability of each person, while people's financial needs are met on an individual and cooperative basis irrespective of the work done.

It is a fundamental principle that nobody living within a Camphill Community receives remuneration directly for the work done. Instead, each person's needs are met according to individual circumstances, a process which demands empathy and trust.

Such a degree of neighbourliness is possible only through a shared sense of purpose in the work and a belief in the spirit of the community, which is strengthened by social and cultural activities that take place.
